Another Storm….

This morning we woke up to 6-8 inches of wet, heavy snow.  A branch from our tree in the front yard broke…and none of the kids had school today!

Blessed be that first day of yours, Lord, wherewith this day of Your Feast is stamped! Your day is like You, in that it shows mercy unto men, in that it is handed down and comes with all generations.

This is the day that ends with the aged, and returns that it may begin with the young! A day that by its love refreshes itself, that it may refresh by its might us decayed creatures. Your day when it had visited us and passed, and gone away, in its mercy returned and visited us again: for it knows that human nature needs it; in all things like You as seeking us.

The world is in want of its fountain; and for it, Lord, as for You, all therein are thirsty. This is the day that rules over the seasons! The dominion of Your day is like Yours, which stretches over generations that have come, and are to come! Your day is like You, because when it is one, it buds and multiplies itself, that it may be like You!

In this Your day, Lord, which is near unto us, we see Your Birth that is far off! Like to You be Your day to us, Lord; let it be a mediator and a warrantor of peace.

Your day reconciled Heaven and earth, because therein the Highest came down to the lowest.

-St. Ephrem

Fun in the Sun!

Having my mom's pool next door is a such an indulgence for the kids...

They absolutely love being able to go to grandma Gale's house to cool off!

It's like re-living my own childhood through them...We love the fun in the sun!

Preparing for a celebration, mourning a loss

This week has been spent furiously trying to make Veronica's 5th birthday party (in our backyard) as special as possible.  Amy has taken so much time to plan the activities, send the invitations, gather the supplies, freshen up the house, and she still somehow found the time to brew a fresh pot of coffee this morning before heading to the store to pick up more supplies.  I have no idea how she does it!

In the midst of these preparations, we are also mourning the tragic loss of another child who drowned near her home on Sunday.  Today we planted a tree in her memory outside our school entrance.

Sometimes God's plan is such a mystery!  How can a small, precious little girl be ripped from the arms of her family at such a young age?

Seeing the mix of joy and pain in the faces of my colleagues as we planted that tree made me realize that much more was planted than that tree.

The symbols that we use to remember our love for one another invoke the very presence of God.  He was there with us, gathered around that fragile little tree.  He wept with us for Ashley, not because He was confused by her death, but because we were in pain.  In the planting of the tree He spoke to us about how the very life of that little girl was, is, and will be a tiny seed that is already bearing fruit both here and in eternity.

Ashley, precious little girl now resting in the arms of the Almighty, pray to God for us sinners in the time of our weakness.  May she rest in peace, freed from all suffering.

A Great Blessing

Yesterday I was awarded a full tuition waiver from the Dean of Graduate Studies for the 08-09 academic year.  WOW.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6, ESV)

This Week....

Sophie can stand up (holding on to something)

Sophie can fall down (when she lets go)

Sam helped his daddy level the front steps

The garage is a little cleaner

Veronica went to Kindergarten screening

Daddy tried to do some re-screening (and failed miserably)

Hold on....the garage is no longer a little cleaner. :)

Nanny you lived your life in love. Your memory lives on eternally. We will miss you but see you some day in heaven with all the angels and saints.

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going."

It's been ahwhile since I've posted to this page. Last weekend we had Sam's 2nd birthday party. He is trying to show you he's 2 here with his fingers. He's so interactive and becoming quite a young man!

Veronica continues to take her ballet class and goes to nursery school twice a week. She is starting to be able to write some letters.

Baby # 3 is now 15 weeks along and has most recently been making her mother really sick. I thought morning sickness went away during the 2nd trimester. Every pregnancy is different.

Kevin is in fact leaving on Christmas evening to consult at a school for autism in Wales. He will meet his brother in Dublin on New years eve and return home on the 2nd. He will take his GRE's on Jan. 3rd and most likely be starting his graduate coursework in mid-January. Please pray for safe journey for him and our family as Kevin adds to his already busy schedule.

We pray your advent season is blessed and that the true joy of Christmas is present each and every day thru out the year.

Love and Christmas blessings,
The Maine Pragers

Family Life
Here are the pics of our new kitchen. As you can see we still need to put on some hardware, install our microwave over the stove, and put the window trim up. We are so pleased with the way it came out!! It is still small but so much more user friendly.

We are forever indebted to John and Gale Stoy for offering to spend their time, talent, and treasure in helping our vision become a reality! Thank you!

I will send other photos when it is completely finished and decorated.

Love to all,
Amy
